Q&A with ‘23-‘24 Mosaic Youth Ensemble member Maddox Smith
Q: What brought you to Mosaic?
A: I have been interested in acting and music for a long time and was looking for a theater company to join. My mom knew about Mosaic. She showed me some video clips of Mosaic and asked if I would be interested in auditioning.
Q: Can you share a specific moment or experience at Mosaic that has had a profound impact on you?
A: Performing in “After Snark” had a big impact on me. It was my first time really acting and singing on stage. When I memorized my lines, I felt very accomplished. I had to get over being nervous and wasn’t sure how I could do it. But after opening night, I realized how much fun I had while doing something I love and that I did not have a reason to be nervous.
Q: How do you see the skills and knowledge you’re gaining at Mosaic translating to your future goals artistically, educationally, and professionally?
A: Mosaic is teaching me what it means to be dedicated and to finish the things I start, even when it can seem hard. I can apply that to all areas of my life. I am also learning acting and vocal skills that will help me when I go to auditions and look to start my career.
Q: Can you share a specific moment or experience with Mosaic that challenged you, but ultimately helped you become a stronger artist or leader?
A: Singing my solo during “After Snark” challenged me the most because I was nervous. But after opening night, I was more confident in my voice and not as nervous.
Q: Please finish the phrase “Mosaic is…”
A: …fun!
