Q: What brought you to Mosaic? 

A: My family had been taking me around to all these model and talent searches. We knew NOTHING about the entertainment industry, but my family saw I had too much energy and that I liked to be seen (lol) so they thought I should give acting a try. At one of these talent searches, an agent was like: “move him out to California! I’ll get him on TV!” But my dad was pretty sensibly like: “…nah.” hahahaaa So we decided to give acting classes a shot instead, and the one place my mom knew to go was Mosaic.

Q: What’s the most impactful thing you learned/gained from participating in Mosaic? 

A: Mosaic taught me to commit both onstage and off. To go hard every time I hit the stage and hold nothing back. But also to commit to my craft when off the stage. Why do the thing if you’re not gonna put your whole self into it? Only the best, nothing less!

Q: What are you up to now? Is there anything about your Mosaic experience you carry with you in your work? In life? 

A: I’m based in LA working as a playwright/screenwriter and voice actor. I’m currently a staff writer on a Cartoon Network show called “Craig of the Creek.” I would not be where I am without the insane work ethic Mosaic drilled into me. That’s something that has served me very well. What I’ve learned about the entertainment industry is that talent gets you to the door, but hard work carries you through and beyond it.

Q: What, if any, difference/impact has Mosaic made in Detroit? In the world? 

A: I think Mosaic has always been a huge source of inspiration in the city. Growing up, theatre wasn’t always easily accessible to Detroiters. For a lot of folks Mosaic was their first and maybe only theatre experience. I think that means a whole lot. Also, Mosaic was, for me, a safe haven. If I had not found it when I did, I really don’t know what sort of person I would have turned out to be. And I know I’m not alone in that sentiment. For kids to have a place to go and feel uplifted, believed in, and valued, is incredibly important. And that was my Mosaic experience.

Q: Please finish the phrase “Mosaic is…” 

A: …a one of a kind experience.
