Q&A with Gregory Steven Miller II

Q: What brought you to Mosaic?

A: I discovered a new-found desire to indulge in the arts in high school. I had never heard of Mosaic until my uncle advised me to audition on the way to a University of Michigan football game…don’t remember much of the game, but I remember the audition talk!

Q: What’s the most impactful thing you learned/gained through your participation in Mosaic?

A: I’d say the most impactful thing I’ve gained from Mosaic is a sense of freedom and self-expression. Mosaic introduced me to the term “safe-space” and I carry those same principles with me as I discover more about myself in early adulthood. Mosaic taught me that it was not solely desirable to be honestly vulnerable in your art but in life as well!

Q: Did you attend college? Where’d you go? How did your Mosaic experience support you in college?

A: Currently, I am settling into adulthood as a newly accomplished alumnus of Western Michigan University’s School of Theatre and Dance. One of the many things I still carry to this day was the advice I received on a New York trip. I can’t remember exactly who said it, but they said: “no matter what, always say yes.” This gives me comfort, knowing that work will always be there just as much as fun; I get to live a long life of both. There is a world of great opportunities to explore if I stay open-minded to them.

Q: What are you up to now? Is there anything about your Mosaic experience that you carry with you in your work? In life?

A: I believe that Mosaic has provided the youth of Detroit a place to find themselves, their passions, and their drives through the arts. Not every alum of Mosaic goes into arts industries, but everyone holds essential keys to success in any field.

Q: Please finish the phrase “Mosaic is…”

A: …a big family, with distant cousins you never knew you had, spreading all over the world, and constantly growing
