September is an exciting time filled with new beginnings. As Mosaic begins its 17^th year of youth development and performing arts programs, we are looking forward to electrifying productions and fresh faces in spite of the challenges of an unsettled economy.

At Mosaic, our young artists come to realize the power they have to make a difference and that circumstance does not compromise their potential. As Mosaic staff, we also continue to learn that lesson. This is evident in our plans to fill the 2009–2010 performance season with the vibrant productions that our audiences have come to expect. In fact, this year’s youth ensemble promises to be one of our best ever! Guided by Mosaic’s nationally recognized teaching method as documented in last year’s University of Michigan study: Excellence on Stage and in Life: The Mosaic Model for Youth Development through the Arts – we know we are changing lives.

This past year has been a difficult one and Mosaic, like many non-profit organizations, was forced to implement cost-cutting measures including staff reductions and suspension of programs. For the first time in Mosaic’s history, we are serving fewer young artists and we’re not out of the woods yet. In the next year or two we will continue to experience the financial pressure that has plagued so many throughout our community.

Thank you for your belief in Mosaic’s work. With the support of generous donors like you, Mosaic hopes to reinstate critical programs and increase our ability to serve more than 600 of metro Detroit’s deserving young people.
